Rebuilding Hope: Restoring the Namatso River After Devastating Floods

Updated: Feb 6

The recent flooding of the Namatso River has left a trail of devastation—homes washed away, livelihoods destroyed, and families displaced. In what should have been a once-in-a-generation event, extreme weather patterns have turned catastrophic floods into a recurring nightmare. This year alone, the river overflowed its banks, claiming lives and tearing through entire communities.

But we believe in hope, resilience, and action.

Our Mission: Restoring the River, Protecting the Future

At Bamboo Slopes, we are not just witnesses to this crisis—we are actively working to reverse the damage and build a more resilient future. Through our Sibona Eco-Resort project, we have:

✅ Reinforced the riverbanks with gabion walls and bamboo forests to prevent erosion.

✅ Restored sections of the river that had been heavily degraded by pollution and deforestation.

✅ Engaged local communities in sustainable land use and conservation practices.

✅ Planned sanitation projects to reduce human waste contamination in the river.

But the recent floods have undone critical work, washing away entire sections of our reinforcements and exposing communities to even greater risk.

We Can’t Do This Alone—We Need You

This is bigger than us. The restoration of the Namatso River requires expertise, funding, and committed partners who believe in sustainable solutions.
